Comparison method

Write down the option you rejected

A comparison is unfinished until the note names the option you did not choose and the criterion that removed it.

A score can hide the choice. This guide adds one block to a comparison: the option you rejected, the criterion that removed it, and the fact that would put it back.

Name the rejected option in the same list

Do not delete the loser from the note after you choose. A later reader needs to see what was on the table.

In a fictional tool choice, the note keeps Paper list, Card wall, and Single file. The choice is Paper list. Card wall and Single file stay in the record with their scores.

Point at the criterion, not the mood

Write which criterion removed the option. Card wall lost because a shared link could not reopen the same board. That is a criterion. We liked the other one more is not.

If two criteria disagree, write both results. Do not average them into a feeling and drop the conflict.

Write the fact that would reopen the option

Add one line: this option returns if this fact changes. For the fictional card wall, it returns if a shared link restores the same board.

That line stops a rejected option from being argued again with no new fact. It also stops a permanent ban that the criteria did not earn.
